Teenage pregnancy in decline in India

Until 1990, it was normal for every ninth or tenth girl in the 15-19 age group to have a baby. Since teenage pregnancy is only accepted in India if it happens within marriage, the high adolescent fertility rate clearly pointed to the prevalence of child marriage.
